    I have SmartThings and have been considering moving away. I really want a compelling alternative. That said, recently, I have finally been able to get rid of the smart lighting section under automations and transfer everything to the native automations, which has made performance much more reliable and stable with SmartThings. This means I am not looking at changing for now. What I really want is a cheap mmWave presence sensor that works at between 66GHz and 80GHz to capture minute movements (my current one only warks at 5.8GHz and cannot detect movements below a couple of inches). I really think there is a gap in the market for a competently-implemented and cheap presence sensor that can work on Zigbee or Z-Wave.

    I have had a SmartThings V3 hub since 2017ish and have not seen outages or devices dropping offline Zwave or Zigbee that you speak of. I do NOT have any Matter devices and even if my hub did go offline (internet outage) it still runs my core routines locally on the hub no problems. I do not really need that complex of routines to run things as between Alexa and SmartThings I can do everything I need. My biggest issue is the majority of my devices are the original SmartThings devices like plugs, motion sensors, with some GE light and built-in receptacles which are Zwave and have been ROCK-SOLID for years with NO issues. For me there is the HUGE cost of the Homey Hub and then having to replace all my SmartThings devices which is another HUGE cost because I doubt they are compatible with Homey. I also have a Samsung phone which has Modes and Routines which is VERY powerful and runs location based routines with SmartThings and a 3rd party app called Alexa Buttons so I can run Alexa routines as well using my Samsung Modes and Routines. Using the Alexa Buttons app with Samsung Modes and Routines I can set my Ring Alarm to home or Away based on the location of my Samsung phone and it works FLAWLESS. When I leave the proximity of my home I set my Ring Alarm to Away, locks my deadbolts, turns off several lights (if they are on) and turns my TV and soundbar off. When I arrive home my Alarm is set to Home mode, unlocks my deadbolt, turns lights on based on time of day (Sunset or Sunrise), turns my TV and soundbar on, and connects to my Wifi and turns OFF mobile data on my phone saving battery so when I walk into the door everything is up and running and do not enter a dark home. Using simple and CHEAP Third Reality motion sensors I have certain lights come on and then turn off if NO motion is detected in areas I seldom enter. With my current setup that works GREAT and is really reliable and solid I have really NO reason to do a MAJOR switch to a "new" hub and all the added COST that goes with it. With Alexa, SmartThings, and others that work with Alexa you can already do some pretty sophisticated routines based on device status already. Yes I DO agree Homey has some advantages and thanks you your videos and other information out there I have a "level" vs. my setup and is nice for me to see the "new" tech. out there. The COST is the MAJOR drawback and as the ole adage goes "If it ain't broke why fix it'?

    I keep hearing about compatibility issues with Homey vs SmartThings and honestly I think the problem is the initial switch. When moving from ST TO Homey we all want the stuff we already paid money for to just magically work. Once I got over that and just started buying devices that I didn't buy specifically for ST I realized I could integrate all sorts of things and make them work together in ways ST never could. I can make my Echos tell me when my laundry is done based on my zigbee plugs or my thirdreality vibration sensors. I can check voltage on my fridge to make sure that it's drawing power and constantly cooling. I can do more with the devices I already have, which makes me comfortable enough to add more automations without hitting that "ability wall" because of the lack of ST's ability to play nice with other ecosystems and even other devices within their own ecosystem.

      @@AutomateYourLife I've been using the Zooz Zen15 because all the community feedback is that not only is it the most reliable but also can handle the high power appliances. I have one on my washer and one on my refrigerator. I was able to set up one flow that will tell me if the power drops below a certain point and another to use the data Homey collects to make sure my power spikes at least every 3 hours to indicate compressor usage (in case for any reason my compressor dies but the fridge itself doesn't).

    Moved from Homeseer HS3 to Homey almost a month ago. It is great to be able to add all the wifi devices that HS didn't handle. All of the zwave switches and dimmers in my home are flavors of Jasco, be it GE, Honeywell or UltraPro. In HS you could not tell the difference in the sub-brands of Jasco. In Homey all the Jasco switches, no matter the flavor work OK. The GE dimmers perform as they should. The Honeywell and UltraPro dimmers in Homey have a dimming scale from 0 to 33%, where 33% is 100% brightness. I had purchased a pair of UltraPro next gen dimmers. Liked the upgrade, just didn't play well with Homey, sent them back, bought a Zooz 800LR dimmer and it has been OK. WYZE is a non-starter in Homey. I make the WYZE z-wave automation through Alexa. Now to figure out RATGDO with ESPHome or MQTT and Homey and solve the myQ issue.

    Using 100 hue bulbs and innovello white new switches thinking of using homey but also trying to figure out how many hue hubs I will need and if one homey will be able to communicate the length of the entire house

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster 7 годин тому

      I would recommend using two Hue Bridges and linking both to Homey Pro. This keeps the number of Hue bulbs to about 50 per Bridge, which is the recommended maximum for best mesh stability. I do this right now with one Bridge for inside Hue, and another Bridge for outside Hue. Homey Pro talks to both without range problems since it is via the home network. I then add non-Hue Zigbee devices to the Homey Pro Zigbee mesh, and with enough repeater devices, that can cover most home sizes.

    • @gbforfunbruh7090
      @gbforfunbruh7090 6 годин тому

      @@dvwebster thank you. I plan on having 3 bridges most likely cause I have 64 - 6” slim lights going in and 34 - 4” bulbs each room will have innovelli white switches and possibly one hue switch or dial. Hoping hue bridge is able to reach the outside lights with no issues. It’s a 2,200 sqft ranch so everything is going to be spread out once it’s done being built. Using a uniFi gateway and switch with ceiling access points so WiFi should be great.

    Does anyone know, Should I put zigbee devises on the same channel as my philips hue bulbs or keep them different?

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster 7 годин тому

      There are only a few Zigbee channels available that are not overlapped by Wi-Fi, so if your Hue systems is working without problems then it has probably found one of them. So, there is a very good chance that if you use the same Zigbee channel for non-Hue devices it will also work OK. You might be concerned that having two or more Zigbee mesh systems use the same channel might cause issues, but since Zigbee uses Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) technology any device will check that the channel is not in use before transmitting and if it is it will wait for it become clear then transmit. In practice the traffic for most Zigbee devices is extremely low, so there is very little chance of one mesh having to wait for another, and even if it does it will be so short a delay that it will probably be negligible. BTW although it is possible to pair Hue devices directly to a Zigbee hub and not use a Hue Bridge, I recommend using the Bridge. Why? Because Hue devices that are Zigbee repeaters have limited resources and Philips recommend keeping the Hue mesh to around 50 devices for best mesh stability. By using two or more Zigbee mesh networks that are independent, your non-Hue devices will not count towards the Philips 50 device recommendation. This means you can have many more Zigbee devices in total.

    I don't know, as I get older (mid 50s mow). I seem to be more ok with just basic things. I have both a samsung and hubitat hub that I don't use. I have 3x hue hubs that are broken down as 1.landscape lights, 2. Indoor bulbs and 3. Home theater lights (for sync). And I tend to just set up schedules within each of the several branded hubs that I have (insteon, lutron, aqara & hue) So, do most people take the time to integrate, or do you just deal with the individual apps? Secondly, what do you do with the wifi devices that use the smart life app? I should state that we use Google hubs throughout the house for voice commands, but don't do any scheduling or automation through them either.

      Truly you can get local control out of most smart home hubs today! But Homey focuses on that

    I'm using the Hubitat at the moment, and its been great! I purchased a Home Assistant Yellow a few years ago when it was on Kickstarter, im thinking of moving over as homeassistant as it looks to have better community support. Whats your thoughts?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife 11 годин тому

      Definitely a huge community on Home Assistant. I like Hubitat but it's slow moving. So I think if you're really into home automation and want to go deep, go for it. Otherwise you're with one of the best already

    Great video! Reliable Homey Pro is indeed, and local! Yes the integration of different brands is limited. Devices from Philips Hue, IKEA, Aqara, Netatmo (radiator valves), INRR (WW/RGB Bulbs and smart plugs), Fibaro (multi sensors FGMS-001 (Z-Wave plus)) are compatible with Homey. Flows and advanced flows are powerful tools to build versatile automations.

    Hi. I use Smartthings Hub. My question is my home panel I use is Samsung Galaxy pad, with Action Tiles and Dakboard. This was working well until updates started to happen. And I can't seem to fix the bugs. Do you suggest i abandon my layout and go with another platform like Homey pro

    • @AutomateYourLife

      Huge gap for both platforms, although I have got a few working with ST. I haven't done an in depth dive on the mm wave presence stuff for Homey though.

      I was told that the Everything Presence One works great in Homey! I haven’t personally tried it. Someone on Shane Whatley’s Discord page said it has great integration though and provided screenshots of all the different features and settings.

      @AutomateYourLife 11 годин тому

      My perspective is that it's a high price, for sure. And I did call them out on compatibility being a problem at that price. However, to an average person who wants to do great automation...it might just be worth it

    • @chrgeorgeson
      @chrgeorgeson 9 годин тому

      I understand your perspective, but ultimately, the market will determine what constitutes too high of a price. I agree with you. I wouldn't pay for Homey Pro because I use a home server to run Home Assistant. For my less tech-savvy friends, I wouldn't recommend Home Assistant or SmartThings. While Hubitat is fantastic, it's too complex for most users. Homey could be a good option for those who need the user-friendly nature of SmartThings in a more reliable package.

      Couldn’t agree with you more! Now if they dropped the cost of entry to $299.US, I think I may be tempted.

      @@AutomateYourLife I agree. As with most things in life, greater convenience and/or greater reliability usually come at a greater cost.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife 10 годин тому

      You could potentially. You'd have to interrupt the circuit and get this in the middle. Likely can do it up at the fan itself but think about how that'll work with the remote after! And check with an electrician please!
